Sometimes when the Scottish weather closes in you will find yourself reluctant to walk across town. Taxis are the easy way and they get to use the bus lanes to get you there quickly. Black cabs are a British institution, with plenty of room, and you can wave one down anywhere in town if it’s orange light is on. The drivers tend to know a remarkable amount about what’s going on, which clubs are busy and so on, and have a reputation for being friendly and helpful so if you don’t know what to do why not ask your driver?

There’s no such thing as a free ride, so they say, but you can get most places in town for around £5, and of course it’s cheaper if you share. A regular black cab Edinburgh Taxi can take up to 5 people.
