St Giles Cathedral

Named after a 7th Century Hermit that lived in France, this impresssive church located on the Royal Mile is the historic City Church of Edinburgh, also known as the High Kirk of edinburgh, it is the seat of Presbyterianism and houses the Chapel of the Order of the Thistle, a Scottish order of Knights of which the Queen is head. Inside you will find hundreds of memorials – plaques, flagstones and statues placed in memory of distinguished Scots and to those fallen in battle. A colourful and impressive array of stained glass windows made over the last 2 centuries are all around you and stunning wood carvings adorn the pupit, the choir stalls and the walls.

The Cathedral is also used as a concert venue, and many of the concerts are free. Check on the website for details of forth-coming and recitals, and more information about the building, its history, and what goes on there.
