Hundreds of thousands of people every year visit the bronze statue that stands in his honour at the southern end of George IV Bridge. Next door in Greyfriars Kirkyard, this West Highland Terrier kept vigil over the grave of his master John Gray for 14 years after his death, leaving his grave only on hearing the 1 o’clock gun when he would go for his lunch.
Greyfriars Kirkyard was the final resting place of many famous Scottish historical figures, and also home of grizzly stories of body-snatchers, live burials and ghosts wandering amongst the gravestones...
