Arthur's Seat

Dominating the Edinburgh Skyline, Arthur’s Seat stands proud at 250m high. It is also known as the Lion’s Head, forming the big peak of a formation of hills in holyrood Park that resemble a crouching lion. It is a glacially carved plug that capped an acive volcano some 335 million years ago, and Geologists get, rightfully, very excited about it. It’s a great walk, quite a challenge, with unrivalled views of all of the Edinburgh area from the top. On a clear day you can see to Rob Roy’s Trossach Hills in the West, and even to the Cairngorm mountains in the north. There’s no view like it.
