Theatre Royal Brighton has been a national treasure for 200 years and remains one of the best-known and well-loved buildings in Sussex. It holds a very special place in British theatre history, affectionately known as the ‘actors theatre' and many outstanding stars of stage and screen continue to appear in its beautiful yet intimate auditorium.
Theatre Royal Brighton has a long tradition of presenting top quality, star-studded West End productions, often before they have played London. A rich, mixed programme continues to bring the cream of the acting fraternity to its world famous stage in gripping drama, world-renowned musicals, cracking comedies and outstanding family entertainment including a spectacular Christmas show. As well as giving a home to visiting productions, Theatre Royal Brighton also produces its own shows bringing high profile stars to Sussex. These have included Simon Callow in The Holy Terror (UK première); Michael Aspel in The Rocky Horror Show, Rik Mayall in The New Statesman (World première) and more recently a production of the worldwide smash hit comedy Noises Off (September 2008)
Under the new ownership of the Ambassador Theatre Group, the Theatre has been gradually restored to its former glory and continues to be the flagship theatre on the South Coast. Situated opposite The Royal Pavilion Gardens, its proximity to a diverse range of shopping and fabulous restaurants make it the first choice for residents and visitors alike.
